Sketches to Concept Models

Type Determination
For the next stage, we produced a full size seating back based on the concept model, while coordinating the design criteria and styling, then checked the interior designs and cabin spaces of the three cab types-Regular, Extended and Crew. Following this, we verified the direction of the basic styling by conducting a user's design taste survey and making comparative evaluations with other manufacturers' vehicles at clinics by using this concept model. Moreover, the designers themselves conducted market research in order to grasp each country's various distinct tastes and market trends.
Based on the results of these clinics and market surveys, we recognized the necessity of adding a high-class and high-quality sense as well as strength to the styling of the concept plan, and decided to revise the styling. The Design Center also requested that we reexamine the design of the detailed layout of the instrument panel. At the same time, we made a number of changes such as minimizing the number of alignment lines and making the ventilation grilles on both sides geometric and characteristic in terms of graphics while maintaining the overall basic structure. By pursuing the design keywords of MONO GRAPHIC and GEOMETRIC, we succeeded in realizing an instrument panel that exuded a higher class and higher quality sense compared with that of the concept model. Next, we further developed this theme to a 1/1 interior clay model and employed this as the type determined model .
Styling Determination
After determining the vehicle type, we moved on to the task of determining the styling by making a unified overall design for the interior. Moreover, in order to respond to the specifications of each market, we performed coordination of the instrument panel design for right-hand-drive and left-hand-drive vehicle use, and we refined the wide application capabilities of the door trims and the console in order to create the differences between grades. At the same time, we responded to requests related to productivity at this stage. We reflected the above styling changes in the capsule model, and adopted this model as our styling determined idea in agreement with each market together with the previously mentioned exterior.
Photo 15. The interior of the mass production model In preparation for mass production, we made quality improvement our most important priority. Before the release of design data, as a new trial, a DQ+V (Data Quality Verification) team performed a quality check and alignment quality verification by using a cutting hard model. Then, after the release of design data, in an effort to improve the design quality, we made elaborate arrangements with the crest supplier concerning the crest, which was the focal point of the vehicle's interior quality. By having the design team play a role both before and after the release of design data, we were able to realize a cabin interior exceeding that of other manufacturers not only in terms of styling but in terms of quality as well.
